Fujifilm GFX 100 II vs Panasonic TZ200
The Fujifilm GFX 100 II and the Panasonic Lumix DC-TZ200 (labelled Panasonic ZS200 in some countries) are two digital cameras that were officially introduced, respectively, in September 2023 and February 2018. The GFX 100 II is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, while the TZ200 is a fixed lens compact. The cameras are based on a medium format (GFX 100 II) and an one-inch (TZ200) sensor. If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Panasonic TZ200 is considerably smaller (59 percent) than the Fujifilm GFX 100 II. It is worth mentioning in this context that the GFX 100 II is splash and dust resistant, while the TZ200 does not feature any corresponding weather-sealing.
The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete and possibly misleading, as the TZ200 has a lens built in, whereas the GFX 100 II is an interchangeable lens camera that requires a separate lens. Attaching the latter will add extra weight and bulk to the setup.
Concerning battery life, the GFX 100 II gets 540 shots out of its Fujifilm NP-W235 battery, while the TZ200 can take 370 images on a single charge of its Panasonic DMW-BLG10 power pack. The battery packs of both cameras can be charged via USB, which can be very convenient when travelling.

Any camera decision will naturally be influenced heavily by the price. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices give an idea on the placement of the camera in the maker’s lineup and the broader market. The TZ200 was launched at a lower price than the GFX 100 II, despite having a lens built in. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
Sensor comparison
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. All other things equal, a large sensor will have larger individual pixel-units that offer better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Moreover, a large sensor camera will give the photographer more control over depth-of-field in the image and, thus, the ability to better isolate a subject from the background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be associated with larger, more expensive camera bodies and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Fujifilm GFX 100 II features a medium format sensor and the Panasonic TZ200 an one-inch sensor. The sensor area in the TZ200 is 92 percent smaller. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 0.79 and 2.7. The sensor in the GFX 100 II has a native 4:3 aspect ratio, while the one in the TZ200 offers a 3:2 aspect.

With 101.8MP, the GFX 100 II offers a higher resolution than the TZ200 (20MP), but the GFX 100 II nevertheless has larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.76μm versus 2.41μm for the TZ200) due to its larger sensor. Moreover, the GFX 100 II is a much more recent model (by 5 years and 6 months) than the TZ200, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that further enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixels. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the GFX 100 II has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The resolution advantage of the Fujifilm GFX 100 II implies greater flexibility for cropping images or the possibility to print larger pictures. The maximum print size of the GFX 100 II for good quality output (200 dots per inch) amounts to 58.2 x 43.7 inches or 147.9 x 110.9 cm, for very good quality (250 dpi) 46.6 x 34.9 inches or 118.3 x 88.8 cm, and for excellent quality (300 dpi) 38.8 x 29.1 inches or 98.6 x 74 cm. The corresponding values for the Panasonic TZ200 are 27.4 x 18.2 inches or 69.5 x 46.3 cm for good quality, 21.9 x 14.6 inches or 55.6 x 37.1 cm for very good quality, and 18.2 x 12.2 inches or 46.3 x 30.9 cm for excellent quality prints.
The GFX 100 II has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
Unlike the TZ200, the GFX 100 II has the capacity to capture high quality composite images (YESMP) by combining multiple shots after shifting its sensor by miniscule distances. This multi-shot, pixel-shift mode is most suitable for photography of stationary objects (landscapes, studio scenes).
The Fujifilm GFX 100 II has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 50-102400. The corresponding ISO settings for the Panasonic Lumix DC-TZ200 are ISO 125 to ISO 12800, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 80-25600.
In terms of underlying technology, the GFX 100 II is build around a BSI-CMOS sensor, while the TZ200 uses a CMOS imager. Both cameras use a Bayer filter for capturing RGB colors on a square grid of photosensors. This arrangement is found in most digital cameras.

Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but can also record movies. Both cameras under consideration are equipped with sensors that have a sufficiently high read-out speed for moving images, but the GFX 100 II provides a higher video resolution than the TZ200. It can shoot video footage at 8K/30p, while the Panasonic is limited to 4K/30p.

One feature that is present on the GFX 100 II, but is missing on the TZ200 is a top-level LCD. While being, of course, smaller than the rear screen, the control panel conveys some of the essential shooting information and can be convenient for quick and easy settings verification.
The reported shutter speed information refers to the use of the mechanical shutter. Yet, some cameras only have an electronic shutter, while others have an electronic shutter in addition to a mechanical one. In fact, both cameras under consideration feature an electronic shutter, which makes completely silent shooting possible. However, this mode is less suitable for photographing moving objects (risk of rolling shutter) or shooting under artificial light sources (risk of flickering).
The Fujifilm GFX 100 II and the Panasonic TZ200 both have an intervalometer built-in. This enables the photographer to capture time lapse sequences, such as flower blooming, a sunset or moon rise, without purchasing an external camera trigger and related software.
The GFX 100 II writes its imaging data to CFexpress (type B) or SDXC cards, while the TZ200 uses SDXC cards. The GFX 100 II features dual card slots, which can be very useful in case a memory card fails. In contrast, the TZ200 only has one slot. The GFX 100 II supports UHS-II cards (Ultra High Speed data transfer of up to 312 MB/s), while the TZ200 can use UHS-I cards (up to 104 MB/s).

It is notable that the GFX 100 II has a hotshoe, while the TZ200 does not. This socket makes it possible to easily attach optional accessories, such as an external flash gun.
