Overview of Sony E-Mount Cameras

Sony revolutionized the digital camera market when it introduced its highly compact, mirrorless APS-C sensor cameras in 2010, and perhaps even more so when launching its full-frame A7 line in 2013. The company subsequently continued to innovate and released updated camera versions in short succession, so that the system is quite sizeable despite its relative youth. In parallel, Sony built up lens catalogs from scratch, both for its APS-C and its full-frame cameras (see also Sony's website for detailed information on current gear).

There are several lines of Sony cameras that differ across feature sets and target users:

• A1-line - DSLR style, full-frame sensor, high resolution & 8k-video;
• A9-line - DSLR style, full-frame sensor, sports-oriented;
• A7R-line - DSLR style, full-frame sensor, high resolution;
• A7S-line - DSLR style, full-frame sensor, video-oriented;
• A7-line - DSLR style, full-frame sensor, enthusiast-oriented;
• A6000-line - Rangefinder-style, APS-C sensor, enthusiast-oriented;
• A5000-line - Rangefinder-style, APS-C sensor, value-oriented;
• A3000-line - DSLR style, APS-C sensor, value-oriented;
• NEX-line - Rangefinder-style, APS-C sensor, pre-2014;
