Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The retail prices at the time of the camera’s release place the model in the market relative to other models in the producer’s line-up and the competition. The GFX 100RF was launched at a somewhat lower price (by 18 percent) than the Q3, which makes it more attractive for photographers on a tight budget. Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Sensor comparison

The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. Of the two cameras under consideration, the Fujifilm GFX 100RF features a medium format sensor and the Leica Q3 a full frame sensor. The sensor area in the Q3 is 40 percent smaller. The sensor in the GFX 100RF has a native 4:3 aspect ratio, while the one in the Q3 offers a 3:2 aspect.

The maximum print size of the GFX 100RF for good quality output (200 dots per inch) amounts to 58.2 x 43.7 inches or 147.9 x 110.9 cm, for very good quality (250 dpi) 46.6 x 34.9 inches or 118.3 x 88.8 cm, and for excellent quality (300 dpi) 38.8 x 29.1 inches or 98.6 x 74 cm. The corresponding values for the Leica Q3 are 47.6 x 31.6 inches or 121 x 80.4 cm for good quality, 38.1 x 25.3 inches or 96.8 x 64.3 cm for very good quality, and 31.8 x 21.1 inches or 80.7 x 53.6 cm for excellent quality prints.

The Fujifilm GFX 100RF has a native sensitivity range from ISO 80 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 40-102400. The corresponding ISO settings for the Leica Q3 are ISO 50 to ISO 100000 (no boost).

In terms of underlying technology, the GFX 100RF is build around a BSI-CMOS sensor, while the Q3 uses a CMOS imager. Both cameras use a Bayer filter for capturing RGB colors on a square grid of photosensors. This arrangement is found in most digital cameras.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The reported shutter speed information refers to the use of the mechanical shutter. Yet, some cameras only have an electronic shutter, while others have an electronic shutter in addition to a mechanical one. In fact, both cameras under consideration feature an electronic shutter, which makes completely silent shooting possible. However, this mode is less suitable for photographing moving objects (risk of rolling shutter) or shooting under artificial light sources (risk of flickering).
